At the halfway mark in 2012 primary voting, women are on track to break the all-time record for the number of general election candidates for US House seats, based on calculations of election results.  And remember, when women run, women win!

Here’s the math: After primaries in 26 states, 97 women have won contests that put them on the November ballot, according to the Center for American Women and Politics. If the same patterns prevail in the remaining 24 states, where 115 women are slated to run, we can dare to expect more than 60 additional women will advance to the general election, putting the total well above the current record of 141 women candidates set in 2004.

And that won’t be the first new record set in 2012: Already, 294 women have filed to run for House seats with four more expected to sign on, shattering the previous record of 262 women set in 2010.

Your hard work has paid off, and now we all must redouble our efforts to help these women cross the finish line. Our goal for November is to hit 20 percent women in both the US House and Senate, which means electing 14 new women House members and 3 new women Senators. We can do it.
