BUILDING EQUALITY IN THE EQUALITY STATE
Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus Hosts Leadership Event
Cheyenne, WY – The bipartisan Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus is encouraging women to express themselves and increase their leadership roles in the Equality State, where the number of women in the state Legislature dropped by 26 percent in 2009. The Caucus will host women at the State Capitol in Cheyenne on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13, 2009 for a day of networking and leadership development called “Leap into Leadership.”
“Our goal is to strengthen women’s leadership at all levels of community and public service,” says State Representative Rosie Berger, a founder and member of the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus.
“Leap into Leadership” will familiarize participants with Wyoming government’s legislative and executive branches, provide an opportunity to meet with statewide leaders and policy makers, and offer leadership development training targeted for women.
First Lady Nancy Freudenthal is scheduled to host a reception for participants and legislators Thursday evening, February 12, in the Historic Governors Mansion. Friday will begin with coffee in State Auditor Rita Meyer’s office at 9:30am, followed by three leadership development workshops presented by the Equality State Policy Center, The White House Project and the Wyoming Business Alliance. Over lunch, women will hear from a panel of former women Legislators, including former Representative Jane Warren and former state Senators Rae Lynn Job and E. Jayne Mockler. The afternoon will provide an opportunity for participants to continue with the leadership development workshops and observe the House and Senate proceedings.
This event is hosted in partnership with Equality State Policy Center, Wyoming Business Alliance, and Wyoming Women’s Foundation; with financial support from Paul and Tatiana Maxwell and Brimmer Communications.
The bipartisan Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus, founded in 2006, seeks to encourage more Wyoming women to run for office and increase the number of women in elected positions. The Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus is a project of The Equipoise Fund. For more information, or to register for Leap into Leadership, please visit http://www.wyowlc.org/leap-into-leadership.
