LA Councilwoman Janice Hahn Wins Special Election – Heads to Washington

Los Angeles City Councilwoman, Janice Hahn (D) won her special election yesterday for California’s 36th Congressional District. Hahn won handily by a 54-45% margin. She succeeds Democrat Jane Harman, who resigned to run a Washington think tank, in California’s 36th District.
Women have won both open seat Congressional elections in 2011 bringing the current total back to the 2008 figure for women in Congress with 73 voting women members – 16.8%.
Janice Hahn faced an opponent who ran extremely negative television commercials, that even by today’s standards, crossed the line as an extreme attack against women.
