Sunday Morning Political Show Debuts First Female Anchor

Christiane Amanpour debuts on Sunday, August 1st as the anchor of ABC’s Sunday morning public affairs program, This Week. A highly respected journalist recognized around the world for her reporting and interviews, Amanpour brings to her new position a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as a deep commitment to delivering the news of the world to Americans.
The program airs at 9 a.m. on Sundays in most television markets around the United States. “It is important to me that we maintain the tradition of This Week as we expand the conversation to address how domestic and international policies affect Americans’ everyday lives,” Amanpour said. “Viewers want to understand how the issues impact them.”
With her international experience and passion for policy, both domestic and international, Amanpour will give audiences something different on Sunday mornings. The 52-year-old Amanpour was born in Iran and most recently covered international affairs for CNN. She speaks English, Persian and French fluently.
Her first This Week interviews include Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
