McGrath won every single county except for Fayette County, which is home to her  chief primary opponent, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray. McGrath was able to make up the 4,664 vote deficit in Fayette County with solid wins in other counties with larger populations including Franklin, Madison, Montgomery, and Scott counties.
