Glasgow Mayor Rhonda Trautman Finds Success During First Term in Office
July 24, 2014
By Kathy Groob, Founder ElectWomen – Taking over as mayor of Glasgow Kentucky during perhaps the worst financial crises of our lifetime, was a daunting task for Mayor Rhonda Riherd Trautman. However, Mayor Trautman soon found a way to pull council members together, balance the budget and increase jobs and city improvements along the way. This week, Mayor Trautman announced a proposed walking and bicycling path and sidewalks project for which the city will be receiving federal grant funds. She announced the funding award Tuesday at a press conference in Council Chambers at City Hall. Nearing the end of her four-year term, hands-on Mayor Trautman has seen unemployment go from 13% in 2010 to 7% in 2014. Under her leadership, the council has also taken steps to tackle misconduct in the city’s police department and improve transparency with city government.
Facing a tough re-election challenge from a fellow councilman, Mayor Trautman is taking to the streets once again to make her case to the voters. “I think the citizens know we are making improvements and are on the right track for our community,” said Rhonda Trautman. “Politics aside, I will continue to use my knowledge and skills on behalf of our citizens and stay focued on getting results.”
