Women’s Under Forty Political Action Committee Endorses Brianne Nadeau for Ward 1 Councilmember

September 17, 2013

U Street — The Women’s Under Forty Political Action Committee (WUFPAC), a nonpartisan political action committee that helps elect more young women to elected office allowing young women to have an equal voice in shaping public policy, has endorsed Brianne K. Nadeau, a D.C. Democratic Party leader and former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, in her campaign for the Washington D.C.Ward 1 D.C. Council seat currently held by Jim Graham.

This endorsement is the result of more than a decade of work by Brianne to encourage and support other young women who are running for office. The endorsement of WUFPAC is not only an early vote of confidence in Brianne’s campaign, but an indication that the future of D.C. politics is tied to the aspirations of Brianne and other young women like her. This endorsement is the second for Brianne’s 2014 campaign and comes more than six months in advance of the primary.

“WUFPAC is proud to include Brianne Nadeau in our first endorsements of the 2014 cycle as she vies for a seat in Washington DC’s City Council,” said Women’s Under Forty Political Action Committee President Kate Farrar. “We’re thrilled to be supporting a candidate who can bring a new energy to local government.”

Since 2006, Brianne has worked to support, encourage and mentor young women through Running Start, an organization that encourages and trains young women to run for office. She has also been a volunteer with the Women & Politics Institute at American University, WeLead and Campaign College, other candidate training programs for young women.

“Helping other young female candidates find their voices and paths to public service is something I’ve been committed to for many years, and to have the support of WUFPAC is tremendously meaningful for me,” said Brianne. “I thank WUFPAC for their support and look forward to working with them to bring another woman’s voice to the D.C. Council.”

Nadeau resides on Belmont Street NW, and first moved to Washington, D.C. in 2002. She was an ANC Commissioner from 2006–2010. Beyond her work on the ANC, Nadeau serves on the board of Jews United for Justice, helped create the U Street Movie Series and is the founder of Sustainable U, a community-led initiative that strives to increase the availability of and participation in sustainable living and working options in the 14th/U Street corridor. Nadeau was elected vice chairperson of the Ward 1 Democrats in 2012, and has dedicated herself to expanding the base of registered Democrats in the ward and engaging voters on local issues.
