Northern Kentucky Businesswoman Files for 4th District Congressional Seat Currently Held by Thomas Massie

January 7, 2018

Bellevue KY—On the heels of upset victories in Alabama and Virginia, Bellevue Democrat Patti Piatt has filed for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional district. A formal announcement will be made at a press conference at 4 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hotel Covington, 638 Madison Avenue, Covington KY, followed by a reception that is open to the public. Piatt is a business executive working as an independent contractor in the food service industry. Beginning her career as a waitress, Piatt attended the University of Kentucky and worked her way up the ladder, overseeing major contracts for the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Thomas More College and Belmont University.

“Northern Kentucky is one of the key economic engines for Kentucky and our region and we have a Congressman who says no to everything,” said Patti Piatt. “There is a job for everyone, but people lack skills. Folks are working two and three jobs, but still cannot make ends meet. I know I’ve been there. That is why I am running for Congress.”

Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District includes 20 counties, stretching along the Ohio River from Louisville to Ashland. “This district includes booming urban and suburban areas along with rural and farmlands,” said Piatt. “My family background includes farmers, small business owners and a long history of hard work. We need people in Congress who will focus on finding common ground and solving problems, not blocking solutions.  Rep. Massie was elected in 2012 and is considered to be among the most conservative, extreme members of the Republican caucus, often voting against his own leadership.”

“We know this is a tough district to run as a Democrat,” said Patti Piatt. “But in this current political climate, anything is possible. We are going to take our message of change and common sense directly to the people of the 4th District and from what I am hearing already, they’re ready for change.”

Patti Piatt’s Kentucky roots are deep in Boone County, with Revolutionary War era relatives buried near Rabbit Hash. Piatt attended St. Henry High School in Erlanger, KY and attended the University of Kentucky. A mother to two sons, Patti suffered a great loss in 2013 when her oldest son took his own life. She turned her grief into action and served on the board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She has been a leader in the local Out of the Darkness annual suicide awareness walk. Patti Piatt resides in Bellevue with her husband John Culbertson.
