Today the governor of Minnesota has announced that he will appoint Democratic Lt. Governor Tina Smith to replace the recently resigned, U.S. Senator Al Franken.

Governor Mark Dayton will announce the appointment on Wednesday morning, and Smith, 59, will run in a special election for the seat next year, the newspaper said.
