Washington Post – It’s “time for Madam President,” EMILY’s List says.

The PAC that advocates for abortion-rights supporting, female Democrats is hosting events across the nation every week of August to galvanize support for female politicians, congressional contenders and, most importantly, a presidential candidate.

Friday in Iowa, the PAC hosted its first “Madam President” town hall meeting featuring Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.); Stephanie Schriock, the PAC’s president; Staci Appel, a congressional candidate in Iowa’s 3rd District; and  Jessica Vanden Berg, Democratic operative.

It was no coincidence that EMILY’s List held its first “Madam President” town hall in Iowa, the host of the first presidential caucus.

“We don’t intend to just talk about Madam President,” said Schriock. “We intend to make it happen in 2016.”

Thursday, Shriock said likely Democratic Iowan caucus-goers were “ready to play a historic role in helping to elect a woman to the White House in 2016.” At the event Friday, Shriock announced that the next town hall meetings would take place in New Hampshire and Nevada, mimicking a presidential primary trail.

EMILY’s List supported likely 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton during her first run in 2008. According to the National Journal, the group was one of Clinton’s top five largest donors, bundling $855,518 for her and spending at least $1.5 million on outreach efforts in early primary states.

In May, EMILY’s List founder Ellen Malcolm endorsed the “Ready for Hillary” super-PAC. And though EMILY’s List selected a number of female politicians to support if Hillary decided not to run, it is certainly preparing for another Clinton in the White House.

“We want to make sure we’re ready for her if she decides to run,” said Shriock.

The PAC’s name is an acronym for the phrase, “Early Money Is Like Yeast,” the theory being that early donations precipitate more campaign contributions later in a race. EMILY’s List was largely influential in raising funds for progressive candidates running in fall 2012. In January, it reported raising $52 million for endorsed candidates such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), who became part of the largest class of women in congressional history.

Next Friday, EMILY’s List will host an event headlined by its current star, Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D), in San Francisco.
