Emerge Kentucky Grad Elisabeth Jensen Enters Race for Congress
July 8, 2013
By Kathy Groob, Founder ElectWomen.com – Elisabeth Jensen is a Lexington Kentucky businesswoman who has a plan for her life. Her mission is to strengthen her community by making sure that families have a voice in our nation’s capitol. A mother of a special needs child, Elisabeth knows firsthand the struggle that families with loved ones with disabilities go through and how difficult it is to access quality health care and education for special children. “It’s a life-long responsibility with a set of unique challenges,” says Jensen. “Our families need a voice.” Jensen has filed to run for Congress in 2014 in Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District.
A smart, savvy businesswoman and a graduate of the Emerge Kentucky political training program, Elisabeth Jensen is a building a campaign to succeed. Taking on first-term incumbent and Tea Party darling, Andy Barr, Jensen has assembled a first-rate team of political muscle to provide advice and services including pollster Celinda Lake and communications expert David Eichenbaum. With her training and connections, Jensen is hitting the ground running, “Our campaign is moving quickly to assemble the elements it needs to win,” added Jensen.
With less than a 10% approval rating among voters, new faces could emerge in Congress after the elections of 2014. Jensen hopes to capitalize on those poor ratings. “Congress isn’t working,” says Jensen. “I will bring a common sense approach and will stand up for families, not anyone’s agenda.”
Elisabeth Jensen is the Executive Director of The Race for Education, a non-profit she co-founded that provides educational opportunities for students with significant financial need and academic challenges. The organization delivers development programs, tutoring, internships, financial literacy training and scholarships. Prior to launching The Race for Education in 2002, Elisabeth served in a management capacity with Fortune 500 corporations the Gitano Group and Walt Disney Corporation.
Building careers, protecting Social Security, strengthening education and college affordability, children’s issues and equal pay for women are among the issues upon which Jensen will focus throughout her campaign.
She is the proud the mom of Will, a rising 3rd grader at Ashland Elementary.
