Ambassador Shabazz as Executive-in-Residence at Spalding University

Spalding University and the Board of Trustees recently named Ambassador Shabazz as Executive-in-Residence for the 2013-2014 academic year. As a diplomat, producer and writer, Ambassador Shabazz has spent over 35 years advocating for peace and justice while developing curriculums and programs for educational institutions, executive forums,  diplomatic networks, penal systems, conferences and human service organizations throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. As Executive-in-Residence, she will further broaden Spalding’s community outreach to be more globally minded and facilitate building community relationships through restorative practices. Restorative practices is a multi-disciplinary approach to foster and restore healthy relationships and to build civic participation and strong communities and schools.

“Ambassador Shabazz’s passion and experience in community building, social justice advocacy and cultural program development will advance the university’s interdisciplinary collaborations and our contributions to the community,” says President Tori Murden McClure.

Raised in Westchester County, New York, Ambassador Shabazz is the eldest daughter of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X Shabazz. She is a graduate of the United Nations International School and studied international law at Briarcliff College in New York. Ambassador Shabazz has led a life focused on social philanthropy. During her tenure at Spalding, she aspires to generate conversations about how to put compassion in action.
