WCF President/CEO Sam Bennett Announces Endorsement of Christine Quinn for Mayor of New York City

March 17, 2013

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Citing her impressive career as an advocate and elected official and her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents, WCF President/CEO Siobhan “Sam” Bennett today announced the endorsement of New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in her race for Mayor of New York City.

“We are supporting Chris for Mayor because she is the most qualified candidate with the best record on issues of importance to women and all New Yorkers,” said Bennett.  “Chris has been at the forefront in the fight for women’s reproductive health, including protecting women who are exercising their right to choose at clinics in the five boroughs. Let’s be clear, Chris does more than talk, she gets results – and a lot of them. She’s extended full day pre-k for thousands of kids, made kindergarten mandatory, protected libraries and firehouses from budget cuts, and passed a landmark living wage law. The list goes on and on.”

Christine Quinn has had an impressive career in New York City politics: as a housing and community advocate, a member of the City Council, and then as its Speaker, the second most powerful job in New York City. She has taken the lead on issues across the board from health care to public safety to budget issues to housing to civil rights.

“Chris is in a great position to be the first woman Mayor of New York City and it’s because she has the best record and vision for how to lead the City.  We are proud to be on the Quinn team,” said Bennett.

Women’s Campaign Fund is a national, non-partisan organization dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of women in elected office who support reproductive health choices for all.
