January 20, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, held a brunch where the newly elected women of the 113th Congress and members of the EMILY’s List community celebrated the inauguration of President Obama, and the extraordinary successes of pro-choice Democratic women leaders during the 2011-2012 election cycle.
Speakers included Leader Nancy Pelosi, Governor Maggie Hassan, Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA), Senator Claire McCaskill (MO), Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI), Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02), Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06), Simone Ward, Deputy Constituency Director & Women’s Outreach Director at the DNC, 2010 Michigan Secretary of State candidate Jocelyn Benson, The Hon. Kathleen Sebelius, and Chuck Wolfe, President of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund.
“EMILY’s List is thrilled to celebrate the second inauguration of President Obama and the incredible success of our pro-choice Democratic women candidates,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “Women voters across the country elected a record number of pro-choice Democratic women and helped reelect the President because they wanted leaders who will fight for policies that benefit women and families. And with EMILY’s List’s help, 16 new Congresswomen, six Senate incumbents, and three new Senators are heading to Washington to do just that. EMILY’s List has so much to be proud of, and I can think of no better way to commemorate our success than to celebrate with the outstanding new leaders in attendance, and members of our growing community.”
