Fresh Ideas for Maine’s State Legislature
October 26, 2012
Mattie Daughtry, a lifelong Brunswick Maine resident, graduated from Brunswick High School and Smith College. At 25, Mattie is the Democrat running for State Representative in Maine facing a Green Party male candidate. She boasts a long list of impressive endorsements including Senator George Mitchell, Planned Parenthood, Maine Education Association, Maine Conservation Voters and the Professional Firefighters of Maine.
Daughtry is a partner at Maquoit Bay Associates, a consulting firm specializing in management, fundraising and social media solutions for non-profits. Daughtry also runs her own photography business and writes a popular food blog.
Previously Mattie was the communications associate for Maine’s Majority, and did legislative research statewide and in Augusta. She worked to hold special interests accountable and make Augusta accessible to everyone by publicizing what was behind each bill. Through Maine’s Majority she helped organize various protests and events to get hardworking Mainers voices’ heard and acknowledged in the State House. She read every bill introduced in the 125th Legislature and lead a statewide push back against the American Legislative Exchange Council, a secretive organization which allows large corporations to write big-business friendly bills and helps legislators advance this legislation on the state level. Daughtry is the only candidate in the race with first hand experience in Augusta. She has experience working with both parties to get the job done, knows how to read and write a bill, and will be able to hit the ground running starting on day one.
