Newly formed 48th district draws first-time, energized candidate

Minnetonka, MN  –  Laurie McKendry has announced her candidacy for Minnesota State Senator for District 48, challenging Republican David Hann. Laurie received the Democratic nomination at today’s Senate District 48 DFL convention.

“I believe everyone deserves a say in their future.” McKendry says. “With our current representation, many voices are being ignored. I understand the impact state legislation makes on our everyday lives. I’ll bring my experience, passion and dedication in working with a broad range of people from different backgrounds to effect positive change.”

“McKendry understands the needs of all Minnesotans. She has the passion, energy and experience to represent the people of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka,” says Senator Ann Rest (DFL-New Hope).

McKendry has been a Minnetonka resident for 20 years. She started her career in sales, co-founded a successful telecommunications firm, and established her own consulting firm. She is a current member of the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs.

“My waitressing single mom, with only a GED education, taught me that with hard work and perseverance, my life could be better,” McKendry said in her acceptance speech. “It was through my difficulties growing up that my sense of justice and advocacy were born. It is my great desire to work to make this world a better place in whatever way I can by being in service to the public.”

The new Senate District 48 includes parts of Minnetonka and Eden Prairie.

McKendry graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Catherine University and has two children, Sarah and Taylor.
