Minnesota’s womenwinning making progress in political front

PINK POLITICS BOOK EVENT IN MINNEAPOLIS TUESDAY, APR. 24

The womenwinning organization has made a significant impact on Minnesota’s women’s political landscape but has work ahead in order to reach parity.  Minnesota remains one of the 28 states that have never elected a woman governor.  Currently ranking fifth in the nation for women in politics, womenwinning is working to turn the political landscape “pink”.

Womenwinning’s mission is to encourage, promote and support pro-choice women’s leadership in all political parties and levels of public office.  Established in 1982, womenwinning is the largest and most influential statewide women’s political action committee (PAC).  Since 1982, it has given one million dollars to more than 2,000 women’s campaigns through direct contributions and support for candidate training and recruitment.

Since its inception, the percentage of women state legislators, county commissioners and mayors has doubled.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, womenwinning kicks off its Salon Series with PINK POLITICS author and ElectWomen Magazine publisher, Kathy Groob.  Kathy’s talk is titled: Nowhere Near Equal and will be selling and autographing books.  The event will be held at the home of Maggie Gilbert, 1920 Irving Avenue South, Minneapolis from 5:30-7:03 p.m.
