Champion for Change, California’s Susan Adams Runs for Congress

April 3, 2012

By Kathy Groob, Publisher ElectWomen Magazine – California’s Democratic primary election for the new 2nd Congressional District is a bruising battlefield with 12 candidates and at least four considered contenders.  One woman stands out for her track record of getting things done– change agent, Susan Adams.  Susan was elected in 2002 as Marin County’s 1st District Supervisior and has become noted as a “champion for change” among her constituents.

She is a seasoned progressive local elected official with a reputation for supporting environmental concerns, being fiscally responsible and negotiating tough solutions to vexing issues in her District and County.

Susan has worked for 33 years in health care and as a Supervisor she fought for Marin County residents’ access to quality affordable health care through programs at the Marin Health & Wellness Center. She lead the effort to establish the Marin Medical Reserve Corps, a volunteer group of health care professionals who assist in times of crisis and is a nationally recognized program.

In addition to health care leadership, Susan has also lead efforts for energy reforms and alternative energy forms, and she stood up against energy giant, PG&E for clean energy for her county.

The new 2nd Congressional District stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border, in the coastal counties of Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte, as well as one inland county, Trinity.  Progressive Congresswoman, Lynn Woolsey, will vacate the seat at the end of the year.  California’s primary election day is Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

As a nurse, educator, mom and grandmother, with ten years of public service under her belt, Susan is well poised to take on the challenges of Congress during rough economic times.
