First Responder Wanda Hammons Enters Race for Kentucky State Representative

February 21, 2012

By Kathy Groob, Publisher ElectWomen Magazine – With politics in her blood, Grant County native Wanda Crupper Hammons has filed to run for an open seat in the Kentucky State House of Representatives.  For the past 20 years, the 61st House seat was held by Wanda’s friend, Royce Adams and prior to that, the seat was held for 18 years by her father, Clay Crupper.  “I am so proud to run for State Representative for the 61st District especially since the past 39 years the seat has been filled by two of the greatest mentors in my life, my father and my friend,” says Hammons.

Wanda Hammons has worked in public service for the past 13 years as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and is currently employed full time by Rural Metro in Grant County on the 911 ambulances.  She is also employed with the local fire department part-time as a Fire Fighter/EMT, certified through the Commonwealth of Kentucky and serves part-time with the neighboring county, Owen County and helps them out from time to time as an EMT.

Wanda believes her services as a first responder has allowed her to build trust with the citizens of her community.  “My current public service job as EMT and fire fighter is so rewarding because I am medically caring for the citizens,” says Hammons.  “If the people trust me with their lives while serving as an EMT, I trust they know the same will be true for any job I do for them.”

When he retired from the state legislature, Wanda’s father ran for and was elected mayor of her city, Dry Ridge.  “I learned firsthand at the dinner table every night, what it means to be a public servant,” says Hammons.  “I have great passion and commitment to the values of our community. The accomplishments that both my father and Royce Adams have done for the citizens will continue on when I am elected.  I look forward to taking that torch and will hold it up proudly for all citizens of the 61st District and especially the two great State Representatives that have helped me get there,” added Hammons.

Wanda Crupper Hammons resides in Dry Ridge, Kentucky and has been married for 32 years and has two sons, Brian and Craig three grandsons. She ran for county magistrate in 2010 and was not elected, but continued to prepare herself for a political future by entering and graduating from the Emerge Kentucky women’s candidate training program in 2011.
