Voter Activist Runs for Harris County Democratic Party Chair
January 27, 2012
In an election to select the leader of the Democratic Party in Harris County Texas, Keryl Douglas is pulling out all the stops, running a campaign much like a candidate for the state legislature. An impressive resume, Keryl Douglas touts her experience as a community and party activist along with her legal credentials as the reason Democratic party loyalists should vote her in to the leadership position. If elected, Douglas would become the first African American woman to hold the position.
“After approximately 30 years of dedication to political empowerment and community advocacy, I am making my first run for political office in order to further the interests of women and diversity in politics,” says Douglas.
“My previous work in voter empowerment and mobilization has resulted in historic and significant increases in voter turnout and empowerment. While my election would make history, becoming the first African American elected HCDP Chair, my interest is more on making history as a game changer for women candidates and those who sincerely and passionately champion causes and interests of women and children specifically; and our nation and its citizens in general,” added Douglas.
