Small Businessmen? Come on Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, you can do better!
January 30, 2012
By Kathy Groob, Publisher ElectWomen Magazine – It was a great to see a female member of Congress this morning on Morning Joe, broadcasting live from Miami Beach Florida. It was not to great to hear Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) talk about creating jobs and referring to the need to remove regulations and create “more certainty for the small businessmen.” What about the businesswomen, Congresswoman?
According to the Center for Women’s Business Research, in 2009 there were 10.1 million businesses owned by women (at least 50%) employing more than 13 million people. One in five firms with revenues of over $1 million are owned by women.
The cuban-born Congresswoman surely knows what it’s like to be in the minority and having to fight to seen as credible. Small businesses owned by women are on the rise and shouldn’t be excluded in gender terms by one who should be a voice for the small businesswomen of south Florida.
