If there aren’t enough women running in California, we’re in trouble
August 2, 2011
By Kathy Groob, Publisher – Even in California, where 19 women serve in Congress and both United States Senators are women, there are fewer women running for office than in the past. Emerge California Executive Director Kimberly Ellis is working to recruit and train more women to run for public office. “Politics is considered a blood sport that turns off many women,” said Ellis.

Emerge California is holding a fundraising event to support its Democratic women’s training program this Wednesday, August 3rd featuring guest speaker, political strategist Donna Brazile. Kimberly Ellis says the number of women running for office in California is declining and that Emerge California is helping to reverse that trend.
California ranks 12th in the nation for women public office and 28.3% of the members of the General Assembly are female.
