Congressional Democrats Looking for “Three of a Kind” Win With Kate Marshall in Nevada

August 9, 2011

By Kathy Groob, Publisher – With a victory in September, Kate Marshall (D-Reno) could become the third Democratic woman to win a special election this year by running on a pro-Medicare and pro-jobs agenda in a heavily red congressional district. Nevada Democrats are betting on State Treasurer Kate Marshall to pull an upset in the special election scheduled for September 13, 2011.

Currently holding the office of State Treasurer, Kate Marshall has a track record of strong fiscal performance.  As treasurer, she secured a net gain on Nevada investments every quarter since taking that office, despite the crash in stocks after the economic downturn. Marshall now turns her focus on the tough work of creating jobs in her state and on the dangerous moves Republicans have made towards cutting Medicare benefits.

“My opponent has signed a no-tax pledge that restricts him from looking at all options for stabilizing our economy and creating jobs,” said Marshall.  “The voters know me, trust me, and know my track record of strong financial performance for the state of Nevada.”

No Democrat has held Nevada’s 2nd Congressional seat in 30 years.  Kate Marshall knows Nevada and is well liked, winning two statewide elections for state treasurer.  Marshall has raised more money than her opponent and has the support of strong national women’s organizations like EMILY’s List.  Republicans hold a 30,000+-voter registration advantage but the district has 60,000 independent registered voters.

Kate Marshall has demonstrated a lifetime record of public service. She served in Peace Corp just out of college and then went on to serve as a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice and then in the Nevada Attorney General’s office.  She has been involved in community programs Toys for Tots and serves on the Advisory Board of Emerge Nevada, a Democratic women’s candidate training program.

“I like to work to solve problems and I’m in this race to win it,” said Marshall.  Visit www.katefornevada.com for more information.
