May 13, 2011

By Kathy Groob – In a state that ranks 41st in the nation for women in politics, Kentucky had six women on the ballot Tuesday for the primary elections for constitutional officers.  Two women emerged from Tuesday’s primary to run in the November general election. Winners are (in their own words from their campaign websites):

Secretary of State Candidate – Alison Lundergan Grimes (D-Lexington) – Alison Grimes is a lifelong Democrat with years of experience leading and succeeding.  Whether she is the demonstrating her capacity to lead through being the president of organizations including the Women Lawyers’ Association of the Fayette County Bar or just serving her community through volunteering at the Salvation Army, Alison successfully betters her community and those in need.

State Treasurer Candidate – KC Crosbie (R-Lexington) – KC Crosbie is currently serving her third term on the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council. During her tenure, she has been a consistent no vote on raising taxes. KC has voted against property taxes, sewer taxes, storm water taxes, park taxes, and small business taxes. In addition to holding the line on tax increases, KC has been an advocate for transparency, access for the public and reduced government spending.
