Tight Houston Mayor’s Race Now Heads to Run-Off
In a tight general election on Tuesday, the election of the new mayor of Houston will be decided in a run-off election on December 12th. Although Annise Parker came in first and received 31% of the vote, it still wasn’t enough to claim victory on Tuesday night. City Controller Annise Parker will face City Attorney Gene Locke in the special election.
Addressing a jubilant crowd at the Hilton Americas-Houston a little after 10 p.m., Parker looked ahead to the runoff. “This race is not over,” she said. “Join me at headquarters tomorrow. We’ll get back to work, and in five weeks, we’ll claim victory.”*
