ELECTION RESULT: Woman Candidate Falls Short in Special Election for Memphis Mayor

Carol Chumney fell short in her quest to become the first female mayor of Memphis Tennessee.  In the special election held Thursday, October 15th, Carol Chumney received 10% of the votes and came in third place in the field of 25 candidates for mayor.  The winner is A C Wharton Jr., the current mayor of Shelby County.

An experienced candidate, Chumney served in the Tennessee state legislature and on Memphis City Council and lost a race for Memphis Mayor in 2007.
