Carol Chumney fell short in her quest to become the first female mayor of Memphis Tennessee.  In the special election held Thursday, October 15^th, Carol Chumney received 10% of the votes and came in third place in the field of 25 candidates for mayor.  The winner is A C Wharton Jr., the current mayor of Shelby County.

An experienced candidate, Chumney served in the Tennessee state legislature and on Memphis City Council and lost a race for Memphis Mayor in 2007.
